Truck Mania Instructions

The control scheme of Truck Mania is very straightforward and easy to pick up. Just like other truck games out there, the game is played entirely with the keyboard. For basic movement, you can use either the W, A, S, and D keys or you can use the arrow keys: (1) To drive forward, press the W (or up arrow) key and hold it down to accelerate. (2) For slowing down, press the S (or down arrow) key. Just hold it down to back up. (3) The A and S (left and right arrow) keys, on the other hand, is for tilting your ride to either direction. While helpful at times, don't hold down either of these buttons for too long. That's a good way to flip and lose the level. That's about everything you need to know about the controls. Let's have a closer look at the game...

Truck Mania Walkthrough

Truck Mania - this game brings you to a world where delivering all sorts of cargo (logs, rocks, crates, etc.) feels more like treading a wire that could break any time. The goal / objective of this game is as straightforward as it could get: you are given some cargo to deliver to the finish line. Along the way, there are all sorts of obstacles and road hazards. Pass through them safely and you beat the level. Rinse and repeat the whole process until you have beaten the game. Sounds easy? In theory, it does. BUT when you play it, it's a different story!

First things first, safety is your priority. See that red bar on the top left part of the screen? That's your health bar. Once that runs out, BOOM! Your truck explodes into pieces. And man, your life / health bar runs out really fast. To make things even more challenging, it's surprising how seemingly innocuous or harmless driving errors could blow up your truck. You may find one of your rear or front wheels stuck in a gap in the bridge; or one of your cargoes like a log could slam into your ride if you are driving too fast - either way, that life bar of yours is going to suffer A LOT. And that's just to name a few of the life-sucking driving errors and dilemmas you might find yourself in.

Now worry not - you can beef up your health bar by buying BIGGER and BETTER trucks. There are 4 different trucks you can use in the game. The first and most basic one is what you will use when you start. Each truck has their own properties. The trucks' performance is measured through its (1) speed, (2) stability of its tires, and (3) health. The last and fourth truck - the green one, scores 5 stars on all 3 departments. By the way, at first, the 3 trucks are locked. You need to finish some levels before you unlock the next one. Just rinse and repeat the process until you get to unlock all 3.

The Scoring System: aside from delivering the cargo in one piece and getting to the finish line safely, there are other ways to earn points in this truck game. See that Bonus Score countdown on the lower part of the screen? The faster you beat the level, the more points you earn. Speed, definitely, is a factor. BUT mind you, it's not everything. More often than not, in this game, stability beats it. You would often find yourself needing to slow down especially when you pass through ramps and downward slopes. Again, while being fast and snappy helps your score, it's pointless if you would blow up into pieces before you get to the checkered flag.

As for the visuals and sound effects, this truck game has to be one of the more polished games out there. While not spectacular in either department, it's definitely A-OK. The graphics and design are nice and clean. Visual and graphic noise are almost non-existent. As for the music and sound effects, there's nothing to write home about BUT, again, it's OK.

Summing things up, Truck Mania comes at you with 24 different levels (12 are easy and the other half is devilishly difficult); 10 different types of cargo; 4 trucks and its topped off with good graphics and sound effects. In simpler terms, this is one of those game that fans of the genre will surely enjoy. Give it a shot and see for yourself.
